Hellooow – Homemade ceramic jewelery and decor items

Durbs may be the last British Outpost in South Africa, but what we are not, is last in the race of entrepreneurship and creativity.

Since Durban-based designer Merewyn de Heer has made her mark with her homemade range of  Hellooow’ ceramics in the ‘what’s hot’ pages of our local mags, she is definitely a designer to be watched.

Her effervescent personality and passion for what she does, shows in each beautifully crafted piece that makes up her extensive range of homemade wares.

Hellooow offers a range of handmade jewelry including necklaces & bangles which have been made using a combination of ceramic buttons, gorgeous hand rolled beads, vintage laces, crocheted roses, and ribbons. Each one is a masterpiece and so individual. I am sure many of you have noticed them roughly piled in huge glass vases for sale in the Urban and Earthchild stores.

Merewyn’s team of talented ladies are all HIV positive. Her reward is to see these ladies regain their self worth and confidence by creating masterpieces using recycled paper clay and other interesting raw materials, giving each hand rolled clay bead a robust, unique look.

Her range has naturally progressed from simple jewelry and now includes a range of lighting aptly named ’Shine’. The ladies hand string each and every home -made chandelier!

Wedding and function planners will be thrilled to know that Merewyn is going to be keeping a few of her special pieces for hire which will include these wonderful hanging chandeliars, table candelabra and cake stands. So for the next special occasion, save her contact details. Imagine what an amazingly chic African Vintage theme you could create!
